Meet Marivic Dubria

Meet Marivic Dubria

This time, we’re honored to spotlight another farmer behind one of our most vibrant lots: Marivic Dubria, a dedicated coffee grower from Balutakay, Managa, Bansalan, Davao del Sur, whose beans were proudly recognized in the Philippine Coffee Quality Competition (PCQC) 2025.

Her Catimor beans, grown at high elevation and processed through the Anaerobic Natural method, carry bright notes of pomelo, orange zest, and cacao nibs—a flavor profile that speaks to both precision and patience. Crafted with a roast profile for filter brewing, her coffee offers a lively and clean cup that pairs beautifully with traditional baked goods like pandesal, bibingka, or sweet cookies.

But behind these celebrated notes lies a story of perseverance.

Marivic, now 47 years old, first turned to coffee farming in 2011. At that time, she and her family were relying on vegetable farming, but the fluctuating prices and control of local traders made the livelihood unpredictable and unstable. “Naisipan namin na magswitch into coffee farming kasi nga sustainable siya at nakakatulong pa sa environment to prevent soil erosion,” she shares.

More than just a shift in livelihood, coffee became a means to secure the future of her children. “Pangalawang reason din po ay para mapaaral namin ang aming mga anak sa high school hanggang college,” she adds.

With the support of NGOs and local farmer groups, Marivic and her community were able to organize and professionalize their efforts. Now, with 14 years of experience behind her, she sees coffee not just as a livelihood, but as a legacy. “Sustainable siya for us... at pwede mo siyang ipamana sa mga anak mo at sa susunod na generations.”

Despite the success, Marivic’s journey is not without its hurdles. The biggest challenge today? Production equipment. “Para mas lalong makaproduce ng magandang quality ng kape,” she explains, noting how improved tools and facilities could help elevate their coffee even more.

Still, she remains hopeful—especially when more people choose to drink local.

“Masaya kami kapag may taong pinipiling uminom ng lokal na kape,” she says. “Kasi pinapahalagahan na nila ang sariling atin. At makakasupport na rin sila sa amin.”

The Marivic Dubria PCQC 2025 release is more than a seasonal offering; it’s a testament to a woman’s resilience, a family’s vision, and the strength of a community rooted in the soil of Davao.

When you choose this coffee, you support real people like Marivic. You help continue a cycle of sustainability, education, and empowerment.
